CJ Wallace, the son of The Notorious B.I.G. and Faith Evans, has gotten a major win in his defamation lawsuit against his ex-producer.
On Wednesday (May 6), per court documents obtained by Complex, a default was entered against his former producer, Jonathan Hay. Last year, Wallace filed a defamation lawsuit after Hay gave interviews where he threw a number of accusations at the son of the rap legend.
Among the accusations in the interviews were that Wallace had engaged in “sexual relations” with Diddy, the co-founder of Biggie and Evans’ former label, Bad Boy Entertainment; that Wallace witnessed or engaged in criminal behavior at Diddy’s “freak-offs”; and that Wallace set Hay up to be sexually assaulted by Diddy.
Hay was found to be in default after Wallace unsuccessfully attempted to serve Hay seventeen times at two of his Florida addresses, followed by a substitute service, all of which Hay declined to respond to.
Being in default means that Hay can no longer respond to the lawsuit. Wallace can now ask for — or the judge in the case can simply award — a default judgment.
Throughout the legal proceedings, Wallace claimed that Hay’s allegations were preceded by a failed Biggie remix project. Wallace and Hay’s 2020 collaboration “Ready to Dance” was released as a single, but the remainder of songs went unreleased because of low interest, creative differences, and alleged “erratic behavior” from Hay. The project falling apart, Wallace said, led to Hay’s “calculated smear campaign.”
A separate sexual assault complaint (one that mentions many of the same alleged incidents Hay discussed in his interviews) was filed by Hay against Wallace and Diddy in Los Angeles Superior Court last July. That case is ongoing.
