Chicago rapper and drill pioneer Chief Keef will finally get his flowers in an upcoming documentary.
Directed by Lyrical Lemonade's Cole Bennett, who curated Keef's Chi-Town homecoming performance over the summer–the film will also be produced in partnership with Kenya Barris' Khalabo Ink Society. According to Variety, the currently-untitled project "will capture Keef’s rise, hiatus and recent return to the city."
"It will examine Chicago’s influence on Keef’s life and career, as well as his impact on the city’s music scene and beyond," the outlet adds.
In 2017, Apple Music announced that they were working on a documentary about the 29-year-old rapper, titled The Story of Sosa, which was ultimately scrapped. The project saw a reunion between Keef and veteran music executive Larry Jackson, who oversaw the rapper's first deal with Interscope. The film was originally slated to be released that December, timed to the five-year anniversary of Keef's debut album Finally Rich.
Meanwhile, the upcoming doc was teased to Complex back in June.
"So we've been bouncing some ideas on how we structure what this story looks like, but we're documenting it in its entirety and building out a story that is viewable and digestible for the world," Bennett said about his collaboration with Barris at the time. “I think this is such an inspiring story."
While Lyrical Lemonade has spent 11 years in existence, the documentary will be Bennett's first full-length directorial effort.
