It was Chappell Roan versus green spray paint during her Governors Ball performance in New York City last June.

The Grammy winner, who brought out a packed crowd during her set, recounted her Statue of Liberty costume during an appearance on podcast Call Her Daddy this week.

Along with the Lady Liberty crown and replicate ensemble, Roan was also spray painted entirely green, which she said was difficult to remove.

Around the 1:15-minute mark of the interview below, Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper asked the "Hot to Go!" vocalist to name her favorite outfit, and she named a latex set from Bonnaroo as her top pick.

Cooper then brought up Governors Ball, where the musician wore "all green."

"OK. I don't think people know this," Roan replied. "I had to spread my cheeks. ... I just spread my cheeks and get sprayed with green, and it didn't come off."

To wash the paint off, Roan had to take "three baths" and used dish soap.

"I literally poured dish soap in and scrubbed my whole body with coconut oil, jumped in, scrubbed with a literal, like, kitchen sponge," she continued. "And every, all of it, came off, except there was a green tint to my skin, so I literally looked moldy for four days."

"My pubes are pulling out from it all," she added. "I'm not even, like, lasered or anything."

The artist, who's known for wearing extravagant outfits and makeup, told the Governors Ball audience that she was "in drag" in dedication to Lady Liberty, "the biggest queen of them all."

On the night that she won Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys, Roan dressed in a circus-inspired ensemble, performing "Pink Pony Club" with dancers dressed as clowns. She also accepted her first Grammy while wearing a cone-shaped wizard hat.
