17-old-old Chicago rapper BabyChiefDoIt claims that his recent comments about using ChatGPT for lyrics was taken out of context.

On Aug. 11, the "Went West" artist visited Power 105.1, where, around the 16-minute mark, he countered the argument that his music spreads "negative energy." He was also asked about an Instagram Stories post he made, which he briefly forgot until admitting that it was something he would say. When the interviewer joked that BabyChief probably used ChatGPT, the rapper said he had recently downloaded the app and used it to write his lyrics.

"That shit works," he said, adding that he prompted the technology to write a song after inputting four bars.

"Now I ain't use it, you know, exactly how it was written, but it was some, you know, some some shit that I could pull out of," he continued.

BabyChief was widely criticized for using ChatGPT, with some social media users accusing him of having a lack of creativity. But the Chicago artist is one of multiple rap acts that have utilized AI, as Cam'ron and Timbaland have embraced the technology.

On Saturday (Aug, 16), BabyChief addressed his comments on Power 105.1, blaming the internet for being "unfun.”

"If ChatGPT was the solution 2 all my problems Y in the absolute f#ck would I give yall the sauce," he wrote on Instagram Stories.

The rapper also posted a screenshot from a text message, where an individual, possibly on his team, told him to be "mindful" of what he says in interviews.

"We gotta make sure we always position things from the drivers seat," the person wrote. "We don't wanna make it seem like you're not a real writer and lyricist cause you are. People think you got ghost writers now."

They concluded, "We never wanna discredit ourselves."

BabyChief returned to ChatGPT, but instead of requesting lyrics, he told the platform to call him the "dopest writer" and deny that he needs a "robot" to write for him.
