Akon's pending divorce from his longtime wife, Tomeka Thiam, continues to make headlines as the hitmaker is now reportedly contesting spousal support.
According to TMZ, two months after Tomeka, Akon's wife of 29 years, filed for divorce and requested sole custody of their 17-year-old daughter, the "Locked Up" singer is now asking that spousal support for his estranged wife be terminated.
In response, Tomeka has also filed a petition to prevent Akon being awarded spousal support.
In Akon's divorce filing, which he filed on Friday (November 14) in Los Angeles Superior Court, the artist and entrepreneur has also requested joint physical custody of his child with Tomeka, while his estranged wife wants full physical custody and joint legal custody.
Although Tomeka is the most publicly known partner of Akon, having last attended the 2024 BET Awards with him, the Konvict Kulture founder, who is Senegalese-American, views polygamy, the practice of having more than one spouse at the same time, as a lifestyle choice he prefers.
On an episode of The Bootleg Kev Podcast earlier this year, Akon said that he would "live life happily" if he had more than one wife.

While it's not been confirmed, there has long been speculation about how many wives Akon has, as he has frequently sidestepped direct answers on the subject.
Akon's legal issue don't stop at his divorce. Earlier this month, on November 7, the 52-year-old artist was arrested in Georgia for a bench warrant tied to a suspended driver’s license.
The matter dates back to Akon being behind the wheel of a stranded Tesla Cybertruck in September, where officers ran his information and discovered that his license had been suspended for a prior failure back in January 2023.
