Thomas Bangalter, one-half of legendary French electronic duo Daft Punk, is gearing up for an interesting direction on his latest album.
Mirage, set to release this summer, is the score from the acclaimed ballet, which premiered at the Grand Theatre de Geneve in May 2025. The French composer teamed up with choreographer Damien Jalet and artist Kōhei Nawa to score 16 dancers.
Self-described as taking “a sculptural approach to sound and music,” Bangalter’s 16 tracks mirror the “changing states” of the dancers throughout the performance.
Bangalter previously worked with Jalet in 2024 for Chiroptera, which was also his most recent solo album. The album was a soundtrack to a collaborative performance art piece in which 150 ballet dancers performed across multiple floors, with their black and white outfits making out words. Costumes were provided by Chanel.
Although Daft Punk disbanded in 2021, Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo are still active, the latter less so. In 2023, Homem-Christo produced “Modern Jam” from Travis Scott’s Utopia and most recently contributed to Rosalia’s 2025 album Lux for the song “Reliquia.”
