DaBaby may have been in hot water after releasing the heartbreaking video for his new song “Save Me,” but it has opened the door to other opportunities for the rapper in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.

In a photo posted to social media Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden revealed he sat down with the rapper to discuss “important issues and collaborations.”

DaBaby found himself in controversy last month after releasing the music video for “Save Me.” In the video, he reimagines the tragic death of Iryna Zarutska at the hands of 34-year-old DeCarlos Brown Jr. in which DaBaby saves her.

He also shared her family’s GoFundMe, which has raised over $470,000 at the time of publishing.

Although DaBaby didn’t know the victim, it particularly resonated with him because it took place in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.

But subsequent reactions to the video revealed he didn’t have permission to shoot the video on the light rail system. Other people accused the rapper of capitalizing on the tragedy, although some felt it was important for him to highlight the incident.
