However, she did drop a few, more explicit, hints along the way.

Although the title appears as if it could be about Pete, the singer told a fan that it's actually a phrase she and her friend Victoria Monét often say. A source toldTMZ that the song is about her experiences as well as self-empowerment, and is not centered around dissing Davidson, with whom she shared a home, a pet and a matching tattoo.

Grande mentioned her exes in the first verse of the song: Ricky Alvarez, Big Sean, Pete Davidson, and Mac Miller.

"Thought I'd end up with Sean, but it wasn't a match. Wrote some songs about Ricky, now I listen and laugh. Even almost got married and for Pete, I'm so thankful. Wish I could say, "Thank you" to Malcolm, 'Cause he was an angel."
