Tory Lanez on Going Independent: 'I Haven't Really Released None of My Real Golden Songs'

Lanez revealed that 'The New Toronto 3' would be his last on Interscope Records.

Tory Lanez is the latest artist to hit the independent circuit and he assures fans that the best has yet to come.

Lanez has built an impressive catalogue. Yet during a conversation with Ebro Darden on Beats 1 for his Rap Life show, the artist explains that he kept his best records in the tuck until it was time for him to be an independent artist.

"I didn't want to give the team those records that I felt like were Earth changing records" Lanez said around the interview two-minute mark. "That's why I haven't really released none of my real golden songs."

Lanez revealed on The New Toronto 3 album that the project would be his last on Interscope Records. He also claimed the label "cheated" him on the track "Letter To The City 2."

"Soon as you hear this verse, I'm out the record deal/They cheated 12 albums, four years, and that's a record still," Lanez raps.

He goes on to touch on his plans as an independent artist, closing the song by saying, "Any label offer under $100 mill' is just offensive, I promise."

Lanez did tell Ebro that TNT3 and Chixtape 5 were projects where he gave the label more effort than usual. This is evident by the way Lanez continues to promote TNT3.

His latest visual from the album for "Who Needs Love" was released on Monday. You can watch it below.
