A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s 'HOODIE SZN' Sets Record for the Fewest Copies Sold by a No. 1 Album

With just 823 physical copies sold, 'HOODIE SZN' becomes the lowest selling No. 1 album in history.

With the streaming era upon us, buying physical copies of music is becoming an outdated past time.

This is a known fact that was further solidified by A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie's latest project HOODIE SZN. Even though it only sold 823 physical albums, HOODIE SZN still reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, giving A Boogie his first No. 1 album. This makes The Bronx rapper's sophomore album the lowest selling No. 1 album in the chart's history.

Yet, the reason A Boogie was still able to secure the crown as the best selling album was because Billboard and Nielsen factored in the 83 million streams that HOODIE SZN generated last week. When these streaming equivalents were combined with the mere 823 copies sold — all of which were purchased via digital download because the album was not released to physical retailers — HOODIE SZN was credited with selling close to 60,000 copies.

HOODIE SZN's odd feat surpassed the previous record holder 21 Savage who's album I Am > I Was set the benchmark only a week prior to HOODIE SZN topping the charts with just 3,481 physical albums sold and 84 million streams. This, however, speaks more to the climate of music than the actual artists, meaning that congratulations should still be in order for A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.
