It was only a matter of time until Killer Mike entered the political arena himself.

After years of sharing his concerns about America in his music, the Atlanta rapper has used larger media platforms like print, live TV appearances and college lectures to share his thoughts on police brutality, racism and injustice. On Instagram and Twitter earlier today, he made his formal announcement to be a write-in candidate to represent District 55 in Georgia’s House of Representatives. Killer Mike (real name Michael Render) will face seven other candidates vying for the spot with six of them running as democrats.

The reason for the election comes after District 55 representative Tyrone Brooks resigned after pleading guilty to tax fraud. Interestingly, Render isn’t claiming Democrat or Republican, either. Independent as always.

After you tell your friends in Atlanta to write Render in, be sure to catch him on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore tonight at 11:30 EST.

UPDATE: Killer Mike went on Instagram again to say he can't legally run tomorrow, but gave a heartfelt response to his fans. Watch it below.
