The girls are fighting. (again)

Last week, Bronx rapper Cardi B dropped her long-awaited sophomore album Am I the Drama? to quite a favorable reception. Not everyone is happy though. The album has been cleaning up on the charts—breaking records in the process. But there has also been numerous salty posts on X, Snapchat stories, and the resurgence from a certain legendary figure to seemingly announce an album.

For her part, Cardi B doesn't seem like she minds "the drama." One of the things that makes Cardi's sophomore album effective is that she is going after rivals. She mentions Bia by name on "Pretty & Petty." And, on arguably the album standout, "Magnet," she seems to send shots JT, one half of the now-defunct City Girls.

The two actually have a complicated relationship one that goes back years. So you might be wondering: what would invoke such an inflammatory assertion?

Don’t worry, we’re here to help you get up to speed. Here is the Cardi B and JT relationship, explained.

January 2019: Cardi B and City Girls release "Twerk"

Like many rap relationships that sour, Cardi B and JT actually started out on good terms. Cardi hopped on City Girls’ breakout dance anthem “Twerk,” which went on to become the duo’s biggest hit.

There’s a caveat, though: JT was incarcerated at the time, so she wasn’t heavily involved in making the track. Still, Cardi appeared in the very NSFW music video, which also spawned a viral $25,000 twerk challenge.

August 2020: City Girls deny having issues with Cardi

By 2020, signs of a splintering relationship had emerged, much of it fueled by stans. After Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion released their sex-positive hit "WAP," fan pages criticized JT and Yung Miami for not publicly supporting the track.

“Bitch, I openly supported Cardi plenty of times, but what y’all are not finna do is bully a bitch NEXT,” Yung Miami posted on X in response, later pointing out that those same stans rarely promote their work.

JT later clarified: "Let me correct you. Cardi [B] did promote our album… We were not talking about any artist in specific. I was talking about those fan pages."

October 2022: Cardi calls JT a "lapdog”

After Cardi B congratulated GloRilla on their collaboration “Tomorrow 2” reaching No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, JT responded to a now-inactive troll account by also congratulating the Memphis rapper.

She encouraged fans to stream Glo’s “FNF (Let’s Go) [Remix]” as well as the “Super Freaky Girl (Queen Remix),” which she was featured on alongside Nicki Minaj, BIA, Akbar V, Katie Got Bandz, and Maliibu Miitch.

After getting pushback for not mentioning Cardi, JT claimed she was merely acknowledging that this was Glorilla’s first track to make the Top 10—adding that “Cardi been having Top 10s.”

Cardi then rattled off a one-word tweet, seemingly directed at JT calling her a “lapdog.” That’s when things really started to get heated— JT retaliated by tweeting “Weiner dog!” quickly following it up with “I hope you don’t think you no BULLY!!!!”

The rappers volleyed insults back and forth for another solid hour on the X timeline, before Cardi vowed to take it back to the DMs where she claimed their conversation started— only to reignite the hot seat by posting a screenshot of YouTube, gloating that “Twerk,” her 2018 collaboration with the City Girls, garnered more views than all of rap duo’s videos combined.

“I’m a street bitch YouTube ain’t got me on no leash hoe, move,” JT shot back before acknowledging the argument was likely brought on by a miscommunication, “Maybe both our timing is off, but how am I an opportunist you called me a lapdog for no fucking reason make since! But back to the dm’s I go!” Cardi, not easing up, responded with a quote tweet, stating that if anything was misconstrued it was JT’s fault for assuming her initial tweet was about her. “If the shoe fits that’s your fault,” she wrote.

To add just one more insult to injury, after the dust settled, Cardi retweeted another video of JT’s producer and engineer, Ben Thomas, advising JT to “sound more like Cardi” in her raps.

April 2024: JT sends Shots on "OKAY"

In the spring of 2024, and JT dropped “OKAY,” the second single from her solo debut mixtape, City Cinderella. It wasn’t long before fans had deduced that a specific verse may have been intended for Miss Cardi: “She ate crab legs, now her whole tooth missin’ / cheap ass veneers, you stay talkin’ shit / Put a marker to this bitch, she’s so counterfeit.”

This came after Cardi posted a video of herself earlier that year in March, revealing a gaping hole in her mouth where a tooth used to be. She went on to explain that she had lost a veneer after gnawing on a “hard-ass bagel.” Questioning who the verse was meant for, rapper Sukihana publicly asked JT for clarification on Instagram, while noting that she too had lost a tooth while dining on crab legs.

Unable to coax a response out of her through Instagram, Sukihana then took to X where she began to subtweet the City Girl. JT vehemently denied the allegation in a series of tweets, by insulting Sukihana and her career, implying she was only making a fuss to drum up much-needed attention. This leads to Sukihana dropping her own JT diss track titled “Cocaine.”

July 2024: JT sends shots on City Cinderella

On City Cinderella, JT comes out swinging with subliminal shots on the first track, “Intro (Hope).”

“Non-rapping bitch, who the fuck you talking to? / I was off in Saks, Gucci alligator bags / While you was laying on your back and stuffing bottles up your ass.”

This line refers to a video that circulated on social media in which a woman that appeared to resemble Cardi, using a bottle as a sex toy while performing on stage. In 2018, Cardi publicly denied this was her in a post on X, “For months ya been sharing this video of a woman putting a Bottle up her vagina. Ya claiming that it was me back then when i was a stripper and ITS NOT. Stop commenting under my shit 'U UsE tO PuT BoTtLeS Up Ur PuSsY' cause that ain’t cardi. I don’t judge anyways.”

In her final swing, JT seemingly takes shots at Cardi’s fashion sense on “Servin.” “I got on shit you can’t pronounce, let me spell it out / L-O-E-W-E and I don’t care bout the amount / These bitches into fashion mad ‘cause I’m into fashion / Mad I got that shit on and they shit was in the past tense / Talkin’ bout you had that shit on in 2017, bitch, it’s 2024 / And you ain’t got that shit no more, hoe / You ain’t got that shit no more, hoe / Yeah, I’m that bitch, I’m that bitch and you can’t stand it, hoe,” JT boasts.

September 2025: Cardi attacks back on "Magnet"

On “Magnet,” Cardi raps:

“Now let’s talk about this hating ass bitch / Ungrateful-ass bitch / I don’t care, met somebody, gotta say it-ass bitch / Fake-friend-ass bitch/ A clown-ass bitch / On the ‘net, kick your friend while she down-ass bitch / Your loyalty depends who you around-ass bitch / Backdoor ho, hatin’ on the low-ass bitch / You a shady-ass bitch, you’ve been trash since birth / Mama didn’t want you, Brenda’s baby-ass bitch.”

Cardi never deliberately names who she’s referring to, but the lyrics seem to hone in on JT as the song progresses: “All that dick ridin’, still ain’t get no feature ass bitch / She just mad she got a n***a she be sharin’ bags with / My n***a cheat, but I don’t stick no dildos in his ass, bitch. / You look a hot mess, easily impressed-ass bitch / You never gave looks, you started getting dressed-ass bitch / Ricky O the only fashion house you know-ass bitch / You should’ve asked me, would’ve took you to the show, lil’ bitch (Haha, bitch).”

On these bars, Cardi is alluding to her rumored fall-out with Nicki Minaj, while throwing jabs at JT’s partner, rapper Lil Uzi Vert.

This only set off a firestorm of tweets and Snapchat stories from JT. “Guitar body hoe wasn’t talking about me,” she stated in a now-deleted tweet, “Better be quiet before I tell them the real tea. Btch PH balance will fry a whole fish. YUCK. With that one flow lol.”

In further retaliation, JT set her sights on Cardi’s new beau, NFL star Stefon Diggs by quote tweeting a video of marketing executive, Chris Blake Griffith, speaking to Tasha K (who Cardi has sued) about his alleged sexual assault at the hands of Stefon. “This is fucking NUTTS& sad!,” JT tweets, “Gay men should be protected. I feel like this isn’t being taken seriously enough!”

She quickly follows up in another tweet, insisting that Stefon is gay, “CARDI B BABY FATHER A GAY MAN!!!!!!!!!! Not because of how he dress or express himself but because CHRIS said it out his mouth!!!! JUSTICE FOR CHRIS I stand with the gays!!!!!” JT goes on to defend her partner Lil Uzi Vert’s style while calling Cardi a “fraud” and a scammer.

Cardi piped up to try and clear up the confusion regarding Chris Blake Griffith’s allegations, “ Chris lied because he was stealing and got caught.. there’s the receipts for that. He lied on Gervonta Davis too and changed the story 1000 times.”

It wouldn’t be a social media spat without someone pulling out the receipts. In her next tweet, Cardi posts screenshots of what looks to be two separate conversations between JT and Uzi with the following caption: “I just want justice for them babies ya man make you abort everytime…ask what he told me about how he felt when he wanted to see Britt in that court room and she didn’t show up or do I need to play the audio?? And don’t let me say what he was sayin about Roc Nation.. JUST UNGRATEFUL.” Cardi also claimed to be in possession of her “ashy nudes,” on a video posted to Instagram during a meet-and-greet event.

JT then posted a rebuttal to DJ Akademik’s Instagram page, stating that Cardi has no right to judge someone for their alleged nudes, while referring to her past as a stripper. In another Snapchat story, JT addresses the abortion allegations and the screenshots: “This rat ass bitch, right? This bitch is supposed to be a motherfuckin Brim and she threatening to snitch on some motherfuckin body because she don’t have anything to say about a bitch. Tha hoe is a loser.” That bitch is trying to spread fake tea about abortions when she stood her illiterate ass in front of millions of people and said she stands for pro-choice.” JT goes on to say, “I can’t take the dumb bitch serious. And bitch show me [who] typing all those motherfuckin messages or I’m calling the police on your ass for defamation of character, bitch, cause I’m sick of it hoe. And I will be back and I’m never getting off your ass.”

It seems very obvious that we're not done. It’s only a matter of time before it pops off again.
