The Red Hot Chili Peppers were forced to cancel their headlining set at the annual KROQ Weenie Roast in Los Angeles on Saturday after the band's lead singer was hospitalized for what was later revealed to be a bout of extreme stomach pain. The band is currently on the road gearing up for the release of its next record The Getaway, which was produced by Danger Mouse and is set to debut on June 17. After its release, the band was scheduled to hit up Europe for a major tour before returning to the U.S. for another run of dates, most notably their headlining set at this year's Lollapalooza.
Flea, flanked by the other members of the band, made the announcement to fans and expressed his sincerest regrets about not making the gig. "Anthony is on his way to the hospital right now and we’re unable to play this evening," the bass player said. "We are devastated about it. We’re really sad. We love you so much. We live to rock. We live to f—ing dig deep into the depths of our hearts and rock. But unfortunately there’s a medical thing that happened and he needed to deal with it."
The Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith echoed Flea's statement a while later on Twitter, saying, "NO one's more disappointed than us that we couldn't perform tonight."
There's been no update as of yet on Kiedis' condition or whether or not he will be up and ready to go for the band's next performance, which is scheduled to take place at the iHeartRadio Theater in Burbank, California on May 17.
