Released in 2018, KOD—with multiple meanings like Kids on Drugs, King Overdosed, and Kill Our Demons—is Cole’s fifth studio album. The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spawned singles like the title song and “ATM,” as well as “Brackets,” “Kevin's Heart," and “Photograph.”

The album's closing track, "1985 (Intro To The Fall Off)," planted a seed that Cole's fanbase spent the better part of eight years waiting to see bloom. That moment finally arrived in February 2026, when Cole released his highly anticipated album, The Fall-Off, which he said would be his last.
