Erykah Badu's second studio album, Mama's Gun, is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and we've got it on vinyl for you to purchase on Complex.
Released in November 2000, Mama's Gun arrived three years after Badu's groundbreaking debut Baduizm and solidified her position as one of neo-soul's most vital voices. The album showcased a more raw, organic sound than its predecessor, with Badu collaborating with a collective of musicians known as the Soulquarians, including Questlove, James Poyser, and Pino Palladino. Recorded largely at Electric Lady Studios in New York, the sessions captured a live, improvisational energy that became the album's signature.
The project includes some of Badu's most enduring work, including "Bag Lady," which became her first top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and the politically charged "A.D. 2000." Other standout tracks include "Didn't Cha Know," "Cleva," and "Green Eyes." Mama's Gun earned Badu four Grammy nominations and has since been recognized as one of the defining albums of the neo-soul movement.
