Released on December 22, 1998, Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood arrived less than eight months after DMX's debut, It's Dark and Hell Is Hot. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, moving 670,000 copies in its first week and making DMX the first artist to release two No. 1 albums in the same year since 2Pac in 1996. The project went triple platinum and cemented X's status as one of hip-hop's most dominant voices at the end of the '90s.

The album ncludes the introspective single "Slippin'," where he reflects on his struggles with addiction and pain. Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood also features appearances from The LOX, Jay-Z, and Marilyn Manson.
