Released in May 2023, If Looks Could Kill marked a turning point for the Atlanta rapper, debuting at No. 18 on the Billboard 200. In a conversation with Complex's Eric Skelton around the album's release, the rapper explained how the project's title song came to be.
"One day in October, I had woken up, like, 'I’m finna go get a Halloween mask.' And I was in the studio, recording with the mask on, smoking and everything. Then I was just like, 'Fuck it, if looks could kill,'" he explained, "and I just kept going. That song started my album."
