What 13 Rappers Think of Lil Pump

All press is good press, at least that's what Lil Pump seems to think. The rapper has made headlines for his lack of regard for hip-hop culture and history, but do other rappers actually hate him? Here's what 13 rappers think of Lil Pump.

Few artists are as polarizing as Lil Pump. The 17-year-old Floridian has become the poster boy for an entire generation of rappers—one that, to hear some tell it, has no regard for hip-hop culture or history. He's been satirized on SNL and (allegedly) dissed by J. Cole. How does the genre at large feel about Pump, though? Here's what 13 rappers had to say about him.

Joyner Lucas: "My remix wasn't a diss"

In December, Joyner Lucas—best known for "I'm Not Racist"—released a "Gucci Gang" remix. "What's a Lil Pump to a rocket flame?" he rapped. "Turn your pink dreads into pocket change." While it may sound like one, the song "wasn't a diss," Lucas tweeted. "everytime I remix someone beat I always have fun," he wrote. "Im actually a pump fan."

Juicy J: "They keep the music alive"

There's no question that Three 6 Mafia's early music influenced the lo-fi trap of artists like Pump and XXXTentacion. So it follows that Memphis OG Juicy J—whose "Trap Jumpin" Pump appeared on—would show love to their generation. "They keep the music alive," he told Rolling Stone. "They keep people interested in the music."

French Montana: "I love what Lil Pump is doing for the game"

French stood up for Pump in a recent interview with LA Weekly. "Honestly, you got to respect every generation of hip-hop," he said. "I love what Lil Pump is doing for the game." He also had a question for the Floridian's haters: "Whoever don't like him, why you listening to him?"

Smokepurpp: "It's Gucci gang"

Smokepurpp and Pump met as kids, so, naturally, Purpp will defend his friend. When someone yelled "F**k Lil Pump!" during a No Jumper Tour show, he and his crew stepped up. "We just jumped in the crowd," he told Nardwuar, "And we beat his ass. It's Gucci gang."

Keef and Pump have worked together before, with the former appearing on "Whitney," from Pump's self-titled 2017 tape. Upon seeing a billboard advertising the project, the Chicagoan shared a photo with this caption: "My youngest boy."

Gucci Mane: "u name the price"

Earlier this year, Lil Pump became a free agent and the public bidding war began. Pump posted a shot of himself under which he wrote, "Look at my neck shynee." That inspired a comment from Gucci Mane: "1017 u name the price." While Pump never signed with Gucci, he did don a 1017 chain at one point.

DJ Khaled: "Let's get this deal done !"

Gucci wasn't the only one trying to sign Pump this winter. Khaled also threw his hat in the ring, saying he wanted to bring his fellow Floridian to his We the Best Music Group. "I TOLD MY LAWYER THIS IS URGENT !!" he wrote. "Let's get this deal done !" While Pump said he wouldn't enter into a contract for less than $12 million, he eventually signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records worth a reported $8 million.

Schoolboy Q: "I f**k with it"

Schoolboy Q isn't shy about listening to Pump, even if some of his fans aren't feeling him. "I f**k with it," he said. "Look, my favorite rapper Nas, but if you think I just wanna listen to that style of music all day, every day, you a f**king idiot."

Lil Uzi Vert: "S/o @Lilpumpjetskiii"

Last year, less than a week before he shared "XO Tour Llif3" on SoundCloud, Uzi took a minute to show love to rappers he was feeling on Twitter. Among them were XXXTentacion, Ski Mask the Slump God, and, yes, Pump. "I'm in both 🌎s," he wrote. "my Young n***as need more credit I f**k wit y'all and that's all dat matters ... keep Flexing."

Royce da 5'9": "I give this a zero"

The Detroit veteran is in many ways the opposite of Pump, and, to exactly no one's surprise, when he came across lyrics from "Molly" on an episode of BET's "Rate the Bars," he was unimpressed. The bars in question began with "Rockin' Balmains," moved to "I'm off the Xans," and concluded with a boast about crashing a Porsche and leaving the scene. "I'm too mature for this message," Royce said, "and I give this a zero."

50 Cent: "All that s**t is fun"

The G-Unit boss crowned 6ix9ine the king of New York, so it seems he's not mad at young rappers, including Pump. "All that s**t is fun," he said of the Florida rapper's music to Complex. "If it's not complex or difficult to make, why not make music that people will enjoy?"

Vince Staples: "I've never heard a song"

In an "In Sight Out" interview with Pitchfork, Vince Staples said he was feeling Lil Uzi Vert. He had some reservations about Pump, though. "I've never heard a song," he said, before asking if he was white. "I don't know how I feel about white people with dreads—that's just my take on that. But I never heard his music, and I hope he does well."

Waka Flocka: "Same s**t, same way"

Waka Flocka told Domenick Nati that Pump bit his style. "Lil Pump raps about the same s**t I've been rapping about on my last 30-plus old CDs," Flocka said. He continued: "Same s**t, same way, on my same-sounding beat. Lil Pump is like a white Waka Flocka. Excuse me, not white—an albino Waka Flocka." For the record, Pump isn't white.
