Benny Blanco Recalls Selena Gomez's Mom Setting Up Their First Meeting Years Ago

The couple talked about their romantic and working relationship in a new interview.

Selena Gomez’s mom was the reason she met her now-fiancé, Benny Blanco, the former Disney star and her beau revealed in a new interview.

Gomez, 32, and Blanco, 36, spoke to Interview Magazine in their first sit-down with a journalist as a couple and recounted the first time they met.

Blanco, who’s a music producer, said Gomez’s mom and former manager, Mandy Teefey, set up a meeting between him and Gomez.

“This is right when I became big and she wasn’t a singer yet,” Blanco said. He then described his reaction to the launch of the actress' singing career.

“When she started putting out music, I was so into it. I feel like she was the original sad girl," he said. “Everyone was like [beatboxes] and she was like, [sings] ‘I just want to look good for you.’ [Laughs] I was drawn to it."

Gomez took over to share how her feelings developed while she teamed up with Blanco on a song, who would years later produce her songs “I Can't Get Enough” and “Single Soon.”

“It was really simple,” the Only Murders in the Building star said. “We got in the studio to work on a song and we just talked; that’s how easy it was for me. I liked him before he liked me.”

Blanco said he didn’t realize her interest to the point that he offered to set up Gomez with his friends. But the next day, they got dinner.

“I guess she thought it was a date and I had no idea it was a date,” he said. “The second time we hung out, our second date, I was like, ‘Wait, does she like me?’ I was clueless. From then on, it was easy.

You know when you think you met the right person, you’re like, ‘Oh my god.’ But it feels so different,” he continued. “The second we started hanging out, I was like, ‘This is my wife.’ I was telling my mom, ‘This is the girl I’m going to marry.’”

In December, Gomez announced her engagement to Blanco with a photo of her ring on Instagram. She captioned the post, “Forever begins now…”

“I guess this is the safest I’ve ever felt in [a relationship], and I see a future with this person,” she told The Hollywood Reporter last year.

The couple is set to release a collaborative album called I Said I Love You First on March 21.
