Lil Baby’s favorite verses are surprisingly all features.
The WHAM rapper sat down with Complex to rank his top five verses. “That’s kind of hard ‘cause I be feeling like I be having a lot of hard ass verses,” he explained. “My best verses would have to be a feature because I don’t look at my songs like that.”
At No. 5, Baby chose Young Thug’s song “Chanel (Go Get It),” which appeared on YSL Records' 2018 debut collaborative compilation album, Slime Language. For his No. 4 pick, he chose Future’s 2020 track, “Life is Good (Remix),” which also features Drake and DaBaby. The track appeared on Pluto’s High Off Life album that same year.
“I definitely remember recording that verse ‘cause one of my little brothers had just got out of prison and then we just pulled up on Future," Baby explained.
For the third spot, Lil Baby chose Drake’s song “Wants and Needs,” which arrived in 2021 on Scary Hours 2.
“I remember I recorded like two or three different verses on there,” Baby said. “We actually recorded my first verse together. But I ain’t like the first verse. So I told him, ‘I’mma send you another version.’ We recorded the first version though definitely in the Bahamas.”
That same year, in 2021, Lil Baby hopped on Joyner Lucas’ single, “Ramen and OJ.” “I love that verse. It’s just the feeling and the flow of that verse,” Baby said of his No. 2 pick.
And for his No. 1 verse, Baby chose “Can’t Leave Without It” from 21 Savage’s 2018 album, I Am > I Was. “I love my verse,” Baby said. “That’s definitely one of them ones.”
Lil Baby dropped off his latest album, WHAM (Who Hard As Me) earlier this month, which boasts features from Young Thug, GloRilla, Rylo, 21 Savage, and Future. The project also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.
The Atlanta native recently sat down with Complex to discuss WHAM. When asked how he hoped his latest offering is received, he said, “I hope the people really listen to it and understand, and it’s not even really a hope. I kind of know what it's going to be like. They'll get a chance to listen and really get into it and just be like, “OK, Baby back in the music again.” I had checked out for a minute.”
