Kendrick Lamar’s 2012 album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City has unlocked a new achievement.

This week, the project celebrated its 10th year anniversary, having spent every single year on the Billboard 200 album chart. According to Chart Data, “It’s the first hip-hop studio album in history to reach this milestone.”

That’s a total of 520 weeks on the Billboard 200. On Nov. 12, 2012, the album peaked at No. 2, just a few weeks after its release. Lamar’s subsequent albums, To Pimp a Butterfly and Damn. have also spent weeks on that Billboard chart, with 2015’s TPAB at 135 weeks and the latter 2017 project at 287 weeks. Both those albums, 2016’s Untitled Unmastered, and 2022’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers all reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 too.

GKMC had wild earning sales numbers for its first week, selling 242,000 units, the most first-week sales for a male rapper in 2012. The album boasts contributions from Drake, Dr. Dre, Jay Rock, and more, and includes some of Lamar’s most popular songs, like “Swimming Pools,” “M.A.A.D. City,” “Backseat Freestyle, “Money Trees,” and “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe.”
