Ye is opening up about his childhood.

The artist formerly known as Kanye West took to X on Monday night to share some intimate details about his formative years.

“When I was growing up my parents beat me,” he tweeted. “Like when I deserved it…Not in abusive way…I guess.”

He continued, “I’d be like, ‘Mom, I’m really upset. I didn’t get the starter hat to go with the jacket you just bought me, ‘and then I got backhanded out the blue…Just seems like that wouldn’t be woke.”

West has been on a tear on X as of late. Over the weekend, he compared two of his biggest albums, The Life of Pablo and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

The Life of Pablo is waaaay better than My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,” he wrote. “Go song for song.”

Ye also tweeted that he doesn’t really life the latter project: “I hate My Dark Beautiful Fantasy Like haaaaaate that album," he wrote. "I made Dark Fantasy out of fear and to prove something it was as like 'coming back from the Taylor Swift moment' I should have just leaned in more."

Regardless, he still had some favorites, like “Blame Game” and “Devil in a New Dress.” He then wrote without context, “If I just had ten more minutes that one time in the studio with Beyoncé.” The cryptic note was followed by him saying he “obviously hates Jay-Z.”
