Funk Flex Shouts Out Diddy, Says He’ll 'Come Through' if Mogul Plays Madison Square Garden

Funk Flex saluted Diddy during his last 7 p.m. to midnight slot on Hot 97.

“This right here. Diddy, what’s going on, baby?” Funk said while playing Craig Mack’s 1994 song, “Flava in Ya Ear.”

“I know you were talking about playing the Garden. I’ll come through,” Flex added, before talking about Mack’s song again. “This was so crazy.”

In 1994, “Flava in Ya Ear” was Mack’s lead single from his debut studio album, Project: Funk da World, released via Diddy's Bad Boy Records. The track was an instant hit, peaking at No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs Billboard Chart, No. 4 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. Project: Funk da World later peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 chart, and No. 6 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Its famous remix features Busta Rhymes, Rampage, LL Cool J, and The Notorious B.I.G.

The album was a big deal for Bad Boy, marking the label's second release, arriving only a week after the Big's debut, Ready to Die.

Flex's nod to Madison Square Garden references news from last month, when Diddy revealed he’s planning a comeback performance in New York City once he's released from jail or prison.

Diddy's lead attorney, Marc Agnifilo, revealed the information during a conversation with Jericka Duncan on CBS Mornings.

"He's going to be back at Madison Square Garden," Agnifilo said when asked if Diddy wants to get back into music. "And I said, 'I'll be there.'"

Diddy has been incarcerated since September 2024. In July, the 55-year-old was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in his federal trial. A month later, he was denied bail for a second time as he awaits sentencing on Oct. 3.

Flex made headlines in late August with rumors he was leaving Hot 97. However, the legendary DJ is actually only moving up his show to the 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. time slot after the Labor Day holiday.
