French Montana Donated $100K to Uganda and Became Rap's First-Ever Global Citizen Ambassador

After French Montana gave money to a hospital in Uganda, the Weeknd, Diddy and Ciroc Vodka matched his donation.

It seems like French Montana not only has a knack for making hits, but also has a philanthropic side to him too. The Bronx emcee has become rap’s first Global Citizen Ambassador for his generous charity to Uganda.

French and collaborator Swae Lee filmed their chart-topping 2017 hit “Unforgettable” in Uganda, where French saw firsthand how poverty stricken the country was—especially in terms of healthcare. He then decided to donate $100,000 to the Mama Hope Foundation, which helped build a hospital that specifically aids pregnant women.

The rapper received the honor at a ceremony in New York on Friday night. Outside of the event the rapper told TMZ, "It feels beautiful to be a child of God, citizen of the world and agent of change. I'm helping the people that need help, you know."

He went on to add that he intends on expanding his influence into Morocco, where he shot the 'Famous' music video. "We expanding our platform to Morocco. Building up our...a couple of things that are going to help the kids in Morocco, you know...The whole idea of this is to spark the mind of the world leaders, you know. To help them do something on a bigger scale than what we doing. I just feel like all the mothers and children should have the right care, you know. It should never be a privilege, it should be a right." You can watch the clip above.

After French’s donation, The WeekndDiddy, and Ciroc Vodka—which is partially owned by Diddy—matched French’s donation with $100,000 each. The social action platform Global Citizen has assessed that the money will help 260,000 people.
