The man who stalked Eminem, including breaking into the rapper's Michigan home twice over the last five years, has been sentenced.
The Detroit Free Press reports that Matthew David Hughes will serve 15 to 30 years on first-degree home invasion and three to seven years and six months on aggravated stalking for breaking into Eminem's home in August 2024. Hughes is reportedly eligible for parole after a minimum of 18 years served.
A jury found Hughes guilty on both charges at his May trial, at which Em testified. Hughes has remained behind bars since being arrested in August 2024 and was ordered to have no contact with the rapper. Hughes also didn't post the $500,000 bond from December 2024.
The 32-year-old was arrested after trespassing on Eminem’s property for a second time last August.
Hughes was arrested after the first time he broke into Eminem's house in 2020. He told Eminem he was going to kill him, according to testimony from a detective.
At the time of the first arrest, Hughes agreed to a plea deal and was sentenced to five years of probation. He was arrested again when he violated probation for a simple assault charge and was later released on parole in May 2024.
Hughes was also arrested in June 2019 when he was discovered sleeping in the guest house of a property that Eminem once owned.
