Earl Sweatshirt Playfully Trolls Fans by Bringing Out Fake Frank Ocean at Show

Earl Sweatshirt trolled his fans at his 10-year Doris anniversary show in New York City on Wednesday night.

In a clip from his show, the Odd Future rapper is heard performing his Doris album cut “Sunday,” featuring Frank Ocean. At one point, Earl stops rapping and says, “And that’s why I had to bring him,” referring to Frank. The audience screams and Earl starts laughing before saying, “I’m gonna bring him out.”

He then motions to someone who’s at the side stage. “Come on out, bro,” he says, prompting someone to walk onto the stage. While it doesn’t appear to be Ocean, the mysterious figure is then illuminated by a stage light to reveal that it was not in fact the elusive singer.

Earl kicked off his four-show Doris & Instrumentals anniversary tour on Aug. 19 in Los Angeles, with subsequent stops in Chicago and New York. His final performance will be on Aug. 25 in London. Earl's jaunt is part of Sony Music Entertainment’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop. Alongside the set of concerts, a digital deluxe version of Doris was also released to streaming, which includes the original 15 album tracks, as well as separate instrumentals for each song.

Doris debuted on Aug. 20, 2013, and debuted in the top five of the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart.
