DJ Quik's Son Convicted of Second-Degree Murder, Faces 40 Years in Prison

DJ Quik’s son, David Marvin Blake Jr., has been convicted of second-degree murder in connection with a 2022 shooting.

According to TMZ, Blake Jr. now faces 40 years to life in state prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 6, 2026. In addition to the one-count murder charge, he has also been convicted of one count of shooting from a motor vehicle.

The shooting in question occurred on May 25, 2022 in Downey, California. According to authorities, a fight broke out between Julio Moises Cardoza Jr. and another man. Blake Jr., who was sitting in a nearby car, then fired multiple gunshots at Cardoza Jr. before fleeing the scene.

Cardoza Jr. suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest and died that day at a hospital; authorities arrested Blake Jr. the following day in Porter Ranch, California and held him on a $2 million bond, per the Los Angeles Times.

At the time of the shooting, Blake Jr. worked as a liaison for Isaac Galvan, a former Compton City Councilman. Blake Jr. followed in his father’s footsteps, going by the rap moniker D. Blake. This year, he released a 4-song EP called Try My Best and appeared on DJ Quik’s 2014 album The Midnight Life. Blake Jr. celebrated his 31st birthday on Friday.
