Adele’s previous rental property has become unsellable after she publicly made comments about it being haunted, the landlord says.

According to The Times, Adele lived in the 10-bedroom mini-mansion in West Sussex in 2012. That year, during an interview with Anderson Cooper, she said the estate—called the Lock House—was ”all quite scary, really.”

Adele also reportedly shared that she hired a woman bodyguard to remain on the estate after hearing strange noises.

In planning documents acquired by The Times, the current property owner Nicholas Sutton wrote Adele’s remarks "negatively impacted future marketing efforts and continues to affect the property’s reputation to this day.”

The $7,400,000 mansion’s amenities include seven en suite bedrooms, an indoor swimming pool, guest cottage, in-ground swimming pool, tennis court, and gardens.

Per The Times, Sutton is attempting to flip the property into apartments and has already sent in his planning application to the local district council. He said the home has remained on the market for 14 years, and in that time, he’s only received one offer in August 2020.

Sutton said the deal fell through after the buyer learned "about the property’s supposed haunted status, which was publicly mentioned by Adele during her tenancy."

The mansion has historical value. It was built in 1909, and in 1971, sold as 26 separate lots. A church purchased the mansion and it became a convent. Sutton reportedly purchased the home in 2003.
