Zohran Mamdani sat down with Action Bronson for the latest episode of Fuck That’s Delicious.

The pair met at a Yemeni restaurant called Jannat Aden, in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn for Iftar, the evening meal to break fast during Ramadan. After Mamdani broke his fast with chai and dates, the pair sampled several classic Yemeni dishes, including grilled fish, lamb haneeth, salta, and chicken agda.

At around the 12:00 mark, Bronson asked Mamdani how he felt about New York City. “I feel good about the city,” the mayor said.

“As a representative born and raised in New York City, I'm just hoping you do the best job you can. That's all that matters, you know? That's all that matters, man,” Bronson responded.

“To grow up in this city and then to be the mayor of the city is like a dream come true,” Mamdani responded, “It's next level.”

Mamdani was born in Uganda in 1991 and moved to New York City at the age of seven, and became a US citizen in 2018. Bronson is a native New Yorker who grew up in Queens.

In November, Mamdani became the city’s 112th mayor (originally widely reported as the 111th, a number that was updated when a researcher found proof of a 17th century mayor who had served two non-consecutive terms.

Mamdani won the race with just over 50% of the vote, with voter turnout surpassing two million—the highest since 1969. He received over 999,000 votes, securing a win against Republican Curtis Sliwa and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent.

Mamdani became New York City’s first Muslim and African-born mayor, and is the youngest person to hold the office in over a century.
