Trey Songz apologized to the city of Detroit this week after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor charges of disturbing the peace. Though he avoided jail time, Trey has been sentenced to 18 months of probation, Billboard reports.

“I love Detroit, I’ve been coming here and perform for 12 years now,” he said in Wayne County Court. “It was no intention of mine to disturb the peace, which I did. I’m just apologizing to the court and the city of Detroit.”

The charges stem from a December 2016 concert in Detroit, where Trey began destroying stage equipment at the Joe Louis Arena. Authorities said the 32-year-old singer became agitated after his mic was cut off during his performance. Prior to his incident, Trey told the crowd organizers were threatening to turn off his mic if he didn’t wrap up soon, as he had gone over the performance time.

Footage captured at the concert shows Trey tearing down pieces of the set and throwing speakers. He was also accused of punching a police officer who approached him.

Trey was initially charged with assaulting, resisting, and obstructing a police officer, which is a felony that could’ve resulted in time behind bars. Those charges were dismissed as a part of the plea deal. In addition to 18 months of probation, Trey is also required to take anger management classes as well as undergo alcohol and drug screenings.
