SZA has spoken.
Earlier this month, a mysterious project hit major streaming services containing music previously credited to SZA. The effort, titled Comethru, is attributed to "Sister Solana," and features nine cuts that were recorded several years ago. These records include "Bed," which surfaced back in 2013; the title track—a response to Drake and Partynextdoor's "Come and See Me"; and "Loved Ones" with Kendrick Lamar under the name "King Kenny."
Weeks after Comethru appeared on Spotify and Apple Music, SZA responded to the project by calling it "big cap." She also promised that new music was on the way. "These are random scratches from 2015. Def not new new! But... creative? And Scary? Lol HEARD U THO.. I Swear the new is coming," the singer-songwriter wrote in Instagram. TDE's Punch also took to social media to distance SZA and the label from the release. "Old songs were stolen and leaked. We are currently fixing the issue. Please feel free to continue enjoying Ctrl until the next album is ready," he wrote on Twitter.
On the same day Comethru was released, SZA played a snippet of unreleased music on Instagram. "Riding w new thoughts," she captioned the video.
It's unclear if this slow-burner will land on the 28-year-old's next full-length project or if it'll be a standalone. Stay tuned as we get more information on that "new" SZA is talking about.
SZA was recently landed on the 2019 Oscars shortlist for her hit song "All the Stars" with Kendrick Lamar. The track, which appeared on Black Panther soundtrack, was submitted for Best Original Song.
