Post Malone Says He's Pumped to Be a 'Hot Dad' After Announcing He's Expecting His First Child

The Grammy-nominated artist, who is expecting his first child with his girlfriend, said he's been excited about fatherhood ever since he was a little kid.

Post Malone is ready to achieve DILF status.

While speaking to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the 26-year-old artist revealed he’s “beyond pumped” to welcome his first child with his longtime girlfriend, whom he has yet to publicly identify. Malone told Lowe he’s yearned to become a father ever since he was a little kid, and even walked around with a baby doll when he was 4 or 5.

“I thought that was the coolest thing,” he admitted. “I would take him around everywhere. And I don’t know how long that lasted. But my mom still has it. And I guess, Zane, I’m so pumped up. I’m going to be a hot dad.”

“Right. There’s another term for that,” Lowe replied. A little acronym for that. I’m sure people ...”

“DILF?” Malone interjected.

The Grammy-nominated artist is now gearing up to release Twelve Carat Toothache, the much-anticipated follow-up to his 2019 album, Hollywood’s Bleeding. Malone told Lowe he started creating the project while under the influence in Malibu.

“I sat by myself in this dark room with my laptop and just made beats,” he recalled. “For 12 hours. Did a bunch of mushrooms, made beats. And I was, ‘Whoa, this is awesome.’” And that turning point there, it kind of… The album, from there, it just wrote itself.”

Twelve Carat Toothache will include the previously released singles “One Right Now” with the Weeknd and “Cooped Up” featuring Roddy Ricch. Acts like Doja Cat, Gunna, the Kid Laroi, and Fleet Foxes will also appear on the project. And although Malone says Twelve Carat Toothache is now his favorite album in his discography, he admits he can’t enjoy it casually. Why? Because he hates the sound of his own voice.

“I am so shy. I’m so shy listening to any of my songs, unless I’m sitting down and I’m like, I’m going to listen to these records now,” he explained. “This interview, I probably won’t even watch unless I’m hammered because I cannot stand the sound of my own voice.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Malone opens up about his mental health and how he experienced low points during the peak of success. He said he felt as though he was going “insane” around the release of Hollywood’s Bleeding; however, he’s since learned to comfort and care for himself to maintain a healthy mindset.

“I’m the happiest dude in the universe. I’m so pumped. I’m so fucking excited, ready to rock and roll,” he said. “But for the longest time, I didn’t know what the fuck was going on. I was like, this is it… I’m going, I’m insane. I’m actually, I don’t know what’s going on.”

He said he will address those struggles in the new album, which he hopes will resonate with fans.

“The songs talking about myself but I know that everybody has had these feelings and these thoughts and the ups and downs and everybody has wanted to just give up and be like, I don’t know what fuck to do,” he explained. “But also people have celebrated—I don’t care if you’re the grumpiest guy in the world—you still celebrated a great time in your life.”

Twelve Carat Toothache will arrive this Friday.
