Pop Smoke’s team has delivered the rapper’s first posthumous lead single, “Make It Rain.”
The record arrives on what would’ve been the release date for Pop Smoke’s much-anticipated debut album; however, days before the project’s scheduled release, UMG executive Steven Victor announced it had been pushed back in wake of civil unrest ignited by George Floyd’s death.
“Music is the tool of revolution," he wrote on Instagram. “We have been watching, along with the rest of the world, as long overdue change starts to take root. We have seen Pop’s music become the soundtrack of the moment, unifying the masses. Given recent events, we have decided to delay the release of his album out of respect for the movement.”
Victor’s post included the track’s official cover art that indicated a mystery feature, throwing out names like 50 Cent, Roddy Riich, Fivio Foreign, and Rowdy Rebel. As we now know, the latter was correct.

Pop Smoke’s posthumous album is scheduled to drop July 3.
Pop Smoke’s team is also preparing to release a documentary about his life. The Brooklyn-bred rapper touched on the project during a Complex interview, which was conducted less than two weeks before he was fatally shot.
“I’m gonna put out a movie or a documentary. I’m gonna make that shit about me,” he said. “Walk ’em through where I used to live, where I used to be at, and why they look at me the way they look.”
