Meek Mill is being sued over a deadly shooting that took place outside one of his concerts last year.
The tragedy occurred Dec. 30 at the Toyota Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, Connecticut, and resulted in the death of two New Haven men: 20-year-old Jaquan Graves and 31-year-old Travis Ward. According to the Hartford Courant, Ward’s family has filed a lawsuit against Meek as well as the venue, claiming they were responsible for the deadly events of that night.
"With song titles like 'Body Count' and 'Oh Kill 'Em' [sic] that praise indiscriminate killing and mayhem, the potential for tragic incidents like this should have been properly anticipated and planned for by Meek Mill, his concert promoters and the Oakdale Theatre," the family’s attorney, Joel Faxon, said.
The suit also states the venue was not properly staffed with security, which was a major oversight considering the previous shootings that occurred at Meek’s concerts.
The Hartford Courant reports the family is seeking more than $15,000 in damages.
Two other concert-goers were treated for non-fatal gun wounds that night. One of those victims is Nathan Mitchell, who is a party to the lawsuit.
Nearly five months after the shooting, no arrests have been made.
