Kanye West Surpasses Aretha Franklin's Record on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart

Kanye now has the fifth-highest total of top 40 hits on this particular chart, trailing Drake, Lil Wayne, Jay Z, and James Brown.

Kanye West’s winning streak continues.

According to Billboard, all seven tracks from Kanye’s recently released studio album Ye are now sitting in the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (dated June 16). The feat pushes Kanye past Aretha Franklin for the fifth-highest total of top 40 hits on this particular chart. The publication reports Ye’s recent entries has brought his tally to 81, while Aretha has a career sum of 80.

Two of the album's cuts have debuted in the top 10 of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart: “Yikes” currently sits at No. 7, and “All Mine” is at the No. 9. According to Billboard, these entries mark the first time Kanye has been featured in the top 10 of the list as the lead artist since 2015’s “All Day,” featuring Theophilus London, Allan Kingdom, and Paul McCartney.

The remaining Ye tracks aren’t too far behind: “Ghost Town” is at No. 11; “Wouldn’t Leave” has taken the No. 14 slot; “Violent Crimes” lands at No. 16; “I Thought About Killing You” is listed at No. 17; and “No Mistakes” debuted at No. 21.

The artists who have more top 40 entries on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart are Drake (156), Lil Wayne (97), Jay Z (96), and James Brown (91); however, Kanye has a chance to move up the ranks with records on Kids See Ghosts (his collaborative effort with Kid Cudi).

Kanye’s eighth studio album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week, earning a total of 208,000 equivalent album units. As a result, the rapper has joined Eminem and the Beatles as the only acts to earn eight consecutive No. 1 albums.
