Juelz Santana Reflects on The Lox and Dipset 'Verzuz' Battle: 'They're More of a Group'

Juelz Santana is keeping 100.

During a recent interview with DJ Vlad, the Dipset member addressed his group’s Verzuz battle against fellow New Yorkers The Lox. The event, which went down in summer 2021, reportedly garnered more than five million views and resulted in a streaming spike for both acts.

As expected, the head-to-head included plenty of trash-talking and the groups played some of their biggest and most beloved hits. Dipset came through with tracks like “I’m Ready,” “Crunk Muzik,” “Salute,” and “S.A.N.T.A.N.A.,” while The Lox dropped classics, such as “Fuck You,” “Chest 2 Chest,” “Dope Money,” and “Wild Out.”

By the end of the battle, there was a general consensus that The Lox secured the W … and Santana agreed.

“I think it’s really mature of you to say that you feel The Lox won,” DJ Vlad told the Harlem-born rapper.

“They did,” Santana replied, before explaining why he believes The Lox are collectively stronger than Dipset.

“I feel like they’re more culturally a group than we are,” he said. “… I feel we’re individual superstars that just form Voltron when we get together, you know what I’m sayin’? Me, Jim [Jones], and Cam, you know what I’m sayin’? And I feel like The Lox are culturally more of a group. Their aesthetic is more of a group. [Jadakiss and Styles P] have how many records where they go back-to-back, like line-for-line—not even a fuckin’ verse-for-verse … I think me and Cam maybe have one track like that.”

He went on to say that Dispet and The Lox both play like teams, but the latter plays “more in sync.” Santana admitted that Harlem groups have a tendency to not only compete with other sets, but also with their group members.

“I could be on the same team as you, but I’m still tryin’ to style on you,” he said. “… Really we should be just worried about beating these n***as, but that’s a Harlem thing, though.”
