Team Roc has secured another big win.
The social justice advocacy group—co-founded by Jay-Z—is celebrating the arrest of Roger Golubski, a former Kansas police officer who is facing federal civil rights crimes. The United States Justice Department announced the arrest Thursday, about a year after Team Roc sued the Kansas City Police Department for alleged misconduct and corruption.
“We continue to stand in solidarity alongside the people of Kansas City, Kansas who have been patiently for justice and accountability,” Team Roc managing director Dania Diaz said in a statement. “The arrest of Roger Golubski is a significant step toward creating a safer community and we applaud the Department of Justice for their commitment, diligence and thorough work on this investigation.”
According to the DOJ, 69-year-old Golubski was indicted on six federal counts for crimes he allegedly committed more than 20 years ago. The defendant, who retired in 2010, is accused of sexually assaulting two women “while acting under color of law.” Prosecutors say the crimes took place between 1998 and 2002, when Golubski allegedly raped the women on multiple occasions, including in and next to his vehicle as well as one of the victim’s homes. The indictment also alleges kidnapping.
Team Roc began calling for an investigation into the police department in 2021, years after allegations against Golubski came to light. The officer was named in a lawsuit filed by Lamonte McIntyre, a wrongfully convicted man who spent 23 years in prison for murder. The lawsuit alleged Golubski tried to coerce McIntyre’s mother into having sex with him; and when she refused, he framed her son for the crimes.
“We are committed to holding these so-called public servants accountable for alleged rampant acts of brutality and exploitation and request a meeting with the DOJ to discuss our findings—findings we hope will move you to act,” Team Roc wrote in an open letter addressed to Kansas Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta. “These allegations require the urgency that the Kansas City, Kansas community deserves.”
Golubski faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.
