Jacquees caused a bit of a stir last year, when he boldly declared himself the “King of R&B.”

“I just wanna let everybody know that I’m the king of R&B right now for this generation,” he said in an Instagram video. “I understand who done came and who done did that and that and that, but now it’s my turn … I’ve been feelin’ like that. ATL let’s get it. I’m the new king of R&B.”

Jacquees hasn't abandoned this belief. On Thursday, the self-proclaimed “King of R&B” delivered his sophomore album dubbed, well, King of R&B. The album title has, of course, reignited the controversy surrounding Jacquees' “King of R&B” statements, which he addressed during an appearance on Sway in the Morning.

Jacquees claimed he didn't start experiencing hate until after he crowned himself the king of the genre. He then responded to YK Osiris' recent interview in which he claimed his music was superior to Jacquees', and called Chris Brown the real king of R&B.

Jacquees wasn't sweating the criticism.

"It's a free world. Everybody can do what they want," Jacquees said when asked about Osiris' dismissive comments. "... Who are we talkin' about?"

You can watch the full interview below.

King of R&B arrives more than a year after Jacquees dropped his debut album 4275. You can stream the project now on Apple Music and Spotify.
