Rocky clapped back on his critics with a series of tweets shortly after people started responding to what he said in the interview, and on Wednesday, he stopped by The Breakfast Club to clear the air further and to reveal what he really thinks about the matter. He started off the interview apologetic for how people had perceived his views after reading his Time Out New York quotes. "I feel terrible as a black man and as an American," he said.
Rocky then claimed that the quotes that appeared in the interview were the result of a combination of him being misquoted and misspeaking. "You get frustrated," he said.
And he also expressed his frustrations with being misunderstood. "It make it look like I'm like, 'Fuck y'all, niggas, I'm out in Beverly Hills and I'm good,'" he said, before going on to explain that that wasn't the case. He told The Breakfast Club that he just didn't want to speak on things that he didn't fully know about or understand. Ultimately, Rocky said, he's just trying to spread a message of peace and love in the world.
The original quote from the Time Out New York interview was widely circulated on Twitter and portrayed Rocky as seemingly being disinterested in the black civil rights movement. "So every time something happens because I'm black I gotta stand up? What the fuck am I, Al Sharpton now? I'm A$AP Rocky. I did not sign up to be no political activist," he told Time Out New York. "I don't wanna talk about no fucking Ferguson and shit because I don't live over there. I live in fucking SoHo and Beverly Hills. I can't relate."
