Da Crook Shares His Self-Directed Music Video for "Free Smoke"

Toronto rapper Da Crook directed the music video for "Free Smoke" hoping to take his creative vision in his hands. Two more singles are coming soon.

Toronto rapper Da Crook is back with a fresh single, “Free Smoke.”

Produced by Hozay Beatz, the track follows singles “The Motto” and “Can’t Be Famous,” which both hit No. 1 on the YouTube trending rankings for music in Canada— both surpassing over 65,000 YouTube views in just a few short days.

The track delivers upbeat melodies with a piano-led beat that enhances the rappers’ lyrical talent, bar after bar. Da Crook is not afraid to be different, as he taps into his creativity to make himself stand out.

The music video for “Free Smoke” provides a contrasting approach, showcasing nature transitioning into a psychedelic affair incorporating a vintage touch. Shot and edited by Lawraines, Da Crook directed the music video in hopes of leading his future projects.

Da Crook tells Complex Canada he was tired of the same-y concepts in music videos, and that his visual goal was to showcase another side of his creativity inside that others may not know about.

“I want to put a storyline, a creative element, a visual message behind each video to keep the viewers entertained,” the rapper says. “I want to provide good music and great visuals. I tap in and listen to my songs on repeat constantly, and I visualize how I feel emotionally, and how others can feel when they watch the creative side of the video.”

Da Crook will release two more singles, “No More” and “Sick Meds,” before the entirety of his project drops in March.
