As the saying goes, all is fair in love and...rap beef. Or something like that. Rappers take that shit seriously. When problems pop off and the dissing shenanigans start, MCs can get downright petty on scumbag levels in attempts to humiliate their counterparts. We’ve seen and heard it all before. Old photos. Gay allegations. Unearthed audio. Photoshopped images. Straight up lies. Leaked reference tracks.
But when really trying to land that fatality on their newfound nemesis, oftentimes rappers will unsheathe their figurative Hattori Hanzo sword of misogyny, which leaves women in at least one of the rappers’ lives becoming collateral damage during the back-and-forth of vitriol.
Kanye West recently had feminists and anti-slut shamers ready to shoot the five when his misunderstanding-turned-Internet-breaking-beef with Wiz Khalifa switched into a semi-judgment session on Wiz’s BM and ’Ye’s former (Colon tickler?? We’ll get to that later) boo Amber Rose.
“You let a stripper trap you…I know you mad every time you look at your child that this girl got you for 18 years,” Yeezy snapped at the Pittsburgh rapper on Twitter after dissing his music wasn’t enough.
There is a history of rappers taking it there. Most famously, Tupac tried to get at Big by attempting to out Faith Evans for having an alleged tryst with the Death Row rapper on his infamous Bad Boy diss track “Hit ’Em Up.”
Though that testosterone-fueled insult may have set the bar, many rappers have used the formula.
Here are 12 times where rappers have used a woman to provoke beef…
Drake – Blac Chyna and Kylie Jenner – Tyga
Drake and Tyga’s beef started, at least outwardly, when Tyga called Drizzy fake during an interview with Vibe. Aubrey responded by liking three of Tyga’s baby’s mother Blac Chyna’s photos on Instagram, kicking off the pettiness. Tyga responded, “that aint my hoe,” so Drake stepped up his game.
He later posted a picture of him in the studio with T. Raww’s girlfriend Kylie Jenner. And as a last shot, he hit the Last Kings rapper with the line, “It's so childish calling my name on the world stage/You need to act your age and not your girl's age,” referring to Tyga relationship with then minor Jenner, on the track “6 PM in New York.”
Savage.
50 Cent – Lastonia Leviston – Rick Ross
50 Cent and beef have become synonymous over the years. But the G-Unit boss took his antics to a new level during the early stages of his feud with Ricky Rozay.
In what would turn out to be a huge financial mistake, Fif obtained and posted a sex tape featuring Ross’ BM Lastonia Leviston on the Internet. While 50 got the first laugh, Leviston, and in turn Ross, got the last. She later took Curtis to court and won a $5 million settlement.
That’s one expensive joke. We hope it was worth it.
Jay Z – Carmen – Nas
Jay Z and Nas’ beef was a squabble for the ages. For one, things got really personal with Hov making some ill implications on “The Takeover” rapping, “Because you-know-who did you-know-what with you-know-who/But let's keep that between me and you (for now).”
He later put his firm biz all the way out there on the song “Supa Ugly” revealing he’d slept with the mother of Nas’ child, Carmen Bryan. “I came in your Bentley backseat, skeeted in your Jeep/Left condoms on your baby seat.”
By that time Nas had responded with the fiery “Ether.” But the shot to Esco’s manhood was already taken.
Drake – Nicki Minaj – Meek Mill
Drake and Meek Mill’s beef has been awkward on a couple of levels. But the fact that Meek dates Drizzy’s label mate, Nicki Minaj, who the Canadian rapper has openly dry humped and got seductive lap dances from on numerous occasions, has to be tops on the list.
Drake hasn’t been shy about lobbing that Nicki grenade during his back-and-forth with Meek with lines like, “Is that a world tour, or your girl’s tour?” and “That’s not what she meant when she told you to open up more.” Or what about, “Shout out to all my boss bitches wifing niggas.”
Yeah Drizzy took it there. Jordan crying meme.
Ray J – Kim K – Kanye West
In 2013, Ray J inexplicably dropped the song “Hey, Kanye Fuck You,” oops we mean “I Hit It First,” where he gloats about being the first person of note to stick his sex salami in between Kim Kardashian’s buns of fun.
He didn’t name names, kind of. But if you needed any more proof that he was reliving his sexscapades with Yeezy’s wife you have the line, “I had her head going north and her ass going south/But now baby chose to go West.” Plus the video for the song featured a woman with a striking resemblance to the reality show star.
’Ye clapped back during a live performance of “Bound 2” changing the lyrics to, "Brandy’s little sister lame man he know it now/When a real brother hold you down you ’sposed to drown."
50 Cent – Kelis – Nas
As we’ve mentioned before, 50 has been in his fair share of beefs. At one point, in 2005, he was seemingly squaring off with every rapper in New York City. He took them all to task on the track “Piggy Bank,” and even added some extra funnies on the video.
Having issues with Nas at the time, Fif targeted his then-wife Kelis in the animated music video for the song in a sequence where he chases down her “Milkshake” truck. He would later remark about the raspy voiced singer’s breath on a mixtape.
Cam’ron – Beyoncé – Jay Z
Cam’ron has never been shy about voicing his disdain for Jay Z with the first instance coming on “You Got to Love It” off Killa Season. On the track he taunts Hov about his shady dealings and even claims the Roc-A-Fella co-founder tried to have him killed.
But his cherry on top was a line about Jigga’s then-girlfriend Beyoncé who had previously sung a chorus on a Cam track. “Beyoncé fiancée, check my 2nd LP I might bring it back/That's your girl, that's your world, had the thing, fucking singing ’bout slinging crack.”
A wedding ring and daughter later, we don’t really think Jay felt like Cam’s boast was that damaging.
Lil Wayne – Beyoncé – Jay Z
Lil Wayne and Jay Z have slick traded jabs on a couple of occasions. But in 2011, after Hov took a shot at Weezy’s pockets, Tune took a shot at Jigga’s boo on the song “It’s Good” off Tha Carter IV. “Talk about baby money, I got your baby money/Kidnap your bitch get that how much you love your lady money.”
It took two years, but Jay eventually answered on “La Familia” questioning Wayne’s dexterity with, “Wanna kidnap wifey/Good luck with that, bruh/you must gonna hide your whole family/What you think we wearing black for.”
Beyoncé is currently safe and sound BTW.
Soulja Boy – Diamond – Lil Scrappy
In late 2012, Atlanta rappers Soulja Boy and Lil Scrappy’s issues with each other bubbled over into social media.
Both reality show MCs once dated Diamond of Crime Mob, and SB wasn’t afraid to throw that card in the ring when things got hot and heated on Twitter one day. “I fucked your girlfriend and you a bitch,” Soulja directed at Scrap.
As far as we know, no paws have been put on anyone yet.
Tupac – Faith Evans – The Notorious B.I.G.
One of the most scathing diss songs of all time, 2Pac went for broke on his classic record “Hit ’Em Up.”
Filled with rancor, the most memorable lines were Shakur’s calling out of Faith Evans, claiming he had slept with Big’s spouse twice within the first three bars of the song.
Evans denies the claims to this day. Sadly, the energy and beef behind this song might have been a part of what led to both rappers’ deaths.
Ice T – CoCo – AP.9
Little known rapper AP.9 didn’t seem to have any beef with Ice T before rumors and photos started to circulate that insinuated he was sleeping with the rap OG’s wife, CoCo. But after information that implied such hit the Internet, AP wasn’t afraid to flaunt in the media the fact that the rumors were more than likely true.
He even went as far as saying he wasn’t afraid of the Ice. As time went on Ice T refused to take the bait and this guy disappeared back into obscurity. And of course, T is still in love with the CoCo.
Snoop Dogg – Tim Dog’s Mama – Tim Dog
In 1993, Dr. Dre’s issues with Eazy-E, Tim Dog, and Uncle Luke came to a head with Dre striking back with the song “Dre Day” featuring Snoop Dogg.
The disses (and questionable phrasing) fly left and right, with a young Snoop even taking one stray shot close to home. In retaliation to Tim Dog’s song “Fuck Compton,” Snoop Dogg issued a scathing your mama joke we are sure Tim didn’t lol at. “Here’s a little joke about your mama that you might not like/I heard she was the ’Frisco dyke.”
Anybody can get it.
