Nearly four years since the release of Detroit 2, Big Sean is readying his next album.
On Monday, the 36-year-old took to Instagram Live to share details regarding his upcoming sixth studio LP, which back in March he said was "coming soon." Sean also played an unreleased track produced by Ye, which is titled "Fighting Fires" and might appear on Kanye and Ty Dolla Sign's long-delayed joint project Vultures 2.
As for the follow-up to 2020's Detroit 2, Big Sean said this project features some of the “best music" he's capable of making, he could potentially "just drop that bitch sooner than y'all think," and he's "really probably got two albums" worth of material.
“You know what I love about this album? It’s so many different sides of me," he shared. "It’s multi-fucking-faceted, just like me. I meditate every morning, but I also got straps in the studio—not them straps; I keep guns. [This album] really represents what the fuck I’ve been going through for these past couple of years.”
Elsewhere in his Instagram Live session, Sean opened up about his personal life and missing his 1-year-old son with partner Jhené Aiko as he's on tour with his mother. Sean also got into his decision to give up drinking back in 2022 as he continues to pursue wellness.
“I’ve been having a hard fucking time, dawg, I’m not gon’ lie,” he said. “Been in this bitch trying to finish a album, and I’m kinda tired of overthinking it. ... And, by the way, n***a, like me, I’ve been trying to be on some sober shit so a n***a out here raw-dogging his emotions, bro."
He added, “For no reason, either. I just stopped drinking in 2022 ’cause that shit was just fucking me up. Any of y'all who got like issues with shit, mentally, that motherfucking alcohol—it’s a depressant so if you dealing with any anxiety like me, I always be thinking about what I gotta do, how I gotta do it, what’s next et cetera. N***a stay away from that alcohol, boy.”
Speaking on missing his and Aiko's son while they're on tour, Sean said, "Actually, while he's been on the road with his mom, this is the longest I've not seen him. And that shit really, truthfully has been fucking me up super bad. Very bad, like very, very, just hard and depressing, you know? And like I said, that's another reason I quit drinking, 'cause shit, if you got a ounce of any that type shit, bro, that alcohol will bring it out of you, even like days after, for real. Alcohol is a depressant, you know, just like a lot of drugs are, so it gets you hooked, bro."
