More details have emerged in the murders of the American Idol music supervisor and her husband, with allegations the suspect used the couple's own gun to kill them.
At a safety meeting held by the Encino Neighborhood Council July 21, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian shot and killed Robin Kaye and Thomas Deluca inside their Encino home on July 10. Hochman says Kaye and Deluca arrived home from the grocery store while Boodarian was in the middle of burglarizing the property.
Hochman claims Boodarian used the couple's own gun to murder them, and then called police from his cellphone about the incident. Officers arrived at the home for a report of a possible burglary, but did not see any evidence of a crime and left.
A concerned friend of Kaye and Deluca called police a few days later after not hearing from the couple, and officers returned to perform a welfare check. At that point, officers noticed blood at the door and discovered Kaye and Deluca deceased inside.
As for how Boodarian was tracked down and arrested, Hochman says Boodarian actually used his own name when he called 911 from his cellphone. From there, officers were able to ping the cellphone, go to Boodarian's residence and arrest him one day after the bodies were found.
It's currently unclear if Boodarian had any sort of connection to Kaye and Deluca, police are still investigating.
Kaye worked on American Idol starting back in 2009, and outpourings from those who knew her best were shared after the senseless killing.
Encino Neighborhood Council President Josh Sautter told NBC News members of the community were outraged Boodarian was out on the streets despite spending time in jail last year on suspicion of battery, displaying a weapon and making threats.
Boodarian has been charged with charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree burglary.
