The Muppets are officially reopening shop, and they’re doing it with a pop star in tow.

A newly released trailer confirms that Sabrina Carpenter will appear in the upcoming The Muppet Show special event, set to premiere on February 4 on Disney+ and ABC, per ABC7 Chicago.

Rather than teasing a full series reboot, the special centers on a one-night return to the original Muppet Theatre, where Kermit the Frog attempts—once again—to keep chaos under control.

The trailer leans into the familiar Muppet formula: musical numbers, backstage mishaps, and celebrity guests trying to keep up with the mayhem. Carpenter appears as one of the evening’s featured stars, sharing scenes with Kermit as preparations spiral.

At one point in the preview, Kermit admits the production is still a work in progress, telling Carpenter, “We’re still working out a few kinks.” She quickly fires back, “That’s all right, I love a kink.”

Also featured in the special are Maya Rudolph—making her first appearance in the Muppet universe—and Seth Rogen, who pulls double duty as both guest star and executive producer.

The trailer hints at Rudolph forming an unexpected bond with one of the Muppets in the audience, while Rogen pops up throughout the production as things inevitably veer off-script.

The event was first announced in September 2025 as part of the franchise’s 50th anniversary celebration. In addition to the guest appearances, the special includes a newly recorded version of “The Muppet Show Theme,” produced by Bill Sherman, which will be released the same day as the broadcast.

Veteran Muppet performers—including Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman, and Matt Vogel—return to voice the majority of the characters. Goelz, who originated Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, is among those reprising roles he first performed decades ago.

Created by Jim Henson, The Muppet Show originally aired from 1976 to 1981 and became a global hit thanks to its blend of sketch comedy, music, and high-profile guest stars.

All five seasons of the original series are currently available to stream on Disney+
