On Saturday, DJ Premier and RZA became the latest heavyweights to go back-and-forth in a beat battle on Instagram Live. The latest in a series of Verzuz battles curated by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, both producers came through with some huge tracks from the likes of JAY-Z, Nas, the Notorious B.I.G, as well as classic solo tracks from the Wu-Tang Clan.
The entire beat battle is now available to stream in full up top. Sitting at two and a half hours, the video includes the bonus rounds in which the legendary producers each took a victory lap. Despite some early sound issues, the two put on a wildly entertaining show with some of the best tracks they've produced.
RZA kicked off the proceedings with GZA's "Liquid Swords," while Premier played JAY-Z's "A Million & One Questions/Rhyme No More." They later went on to share posse cuts, with RZA thriving by the time he dropped Wu-Tang's "Shame on a N***a." With more than 150,000 viewers tuning in to check out the battle, RZA and Premier showcased there was no clear winner between them.
Speaking about the battle with Complex prior to it taking place, RZA said he was asked to participate by Swizz. "This is something we're doing for the culture," he said. "People could take it as a fight, a battle, whatever they want, but it's more about us celebrating the culture of hip-hop. I'm a big fan of DJ Premier."
