Royce da 5'9" Says Nick Cannon Took Eminem Beef 'Way More Personal'

Following the release of his new album The Allegory, Royce da 5'9" stopped by the Breakfast Club to discuss, among other things, Eminem's beefs and why Royce has stood by him. On the record, Royce mentions in passing that he doesn't want Em to respond to every diss directed at him. When asked about why he feels that way, he went on to offer his take on Em's resurrected beef with Nick Cannon.

"Sometimes I feel like it's a distraction more so than it is just healthy rapping," Royce explained at the 18:30 point of the interview. "The second that I seen that Nick Cannon seemed really offended, to me that's when it should stop, you know what I mean? Because I know there's no malice coming from Marshall's end. ... So the second he starts to look super offended like that I feel like either they should talk or everything should just stop."

Eminem's rivalry with Cannon reignited last year after Em took shots at him on Fat Joe's "Lord Above," which prompted Cannon to drop three diss tracks. Royce said the line came about after Cannon had talked about going to Detroit to "beat up Marshall," and Em "got tired of him doing that." He added, "[Em] sent him a line on some hip-hop shit, but I think Nick took it way more personal than he did before. ... Once that happens and people look genuinely offended it stops feeling like a fun situation to me."

Charlamagne proceeded to bring up "Canceled: Invitation," Cannon's third diss track, which samples one of Em's pre-fame songs in which he rapped, "Black girls are bitches, black girls are dumb." Royce admitted that "it looks bad," but Cannon also looks bad for "trying to ruin somebody." He continued, "I wish Nick wouldn't put himself in that position. ... If that's what Marshall was, it would've shown by now, bro."

During the chat, Royce also addressed his former labelmate Yelawolf. The two have been going at each other recently, and Royce even claimed in an interview with Real 92.3 that Yela did something "disrespectful" to him. "I told myself I wasn't gonna allow what he did to change my character, or have me doing anything that's not indicative of who I genuinely am so that's why I'm not airing him out. I can tell you off camera," Royce told the Breakfast Club. He didn't go into the situation much further, but he did clarify it wasn't anything to do with him leaving Shady Records.

Closer to the end of the interview, Royce talked about his concern for Tee Grizzley. While he admitted he has "love" for the rapper, who took shots at Eminem on his song "No Talkin" last year, he said "a lot of the young guys, they lack the information." Royce said Em approached him to ask if he should work with Tee prior to the release of "No Talkin," but they ultimately decided to wait a while so that Em wouldn't "get credit" for Grizzley's success.

"We were just sitting back watching him and then he came out with the diss," Royce said. "Then Marshall called me like, 'What the fuck? He just burned a bridge that he ain't even know he had.' I hate to see young'uns make those kind of decisions. ... I'd rather there be unity first." Royce did admit he was guilty of such behavior in the past, though.
