Florida rapper POORSTACY, real name Carlito Milfort Jr., has died at age 26.
As reported by TMZ, emo and punk-influenced rapper died on Saturday (Nov. 29), per the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner. The cause of death has not been confirmed. Authorities were called to a hotel in Boca Raton on Saturday and the rapper was taken to a nearby hospital. He reportedly checked into the hotel, which he had been staying at for ten days, with an unidentified woman and a toddler.
The rapper gained an audience thanks to his blend of hip-hop and various genres of rock, including heavy metal and post-punk. In an interview with Revolver Mag in 2021, the rapper spoke about his close relationship with Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes ("He sends me handwritten letters and we play Call of Duty until six in the fuckin’ morning"), with whom he collaborated with on the track “Knife Party.” POORSTACY signed a deal with Internet Money Records early in his career, but they parted ways in 2021 due to personal and creative differences.
POORSTACY also collaborated with Travis Barker on several tracks and released two studio albums with 10k Projects, the Elliot Grainge-owned label that was once home to 6ix9ine. In 2020, POORSTACY was featured on the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for Bill & Ted Face the Music, which also included the likes of Weezer, Lamb of God, and Mastodon.
In 2023, as reported at the time by Coral Springs Talk (and confirmed by Complex's viewing of Broward County court documents), POORSTACY was arrested following a standoff with authorities. He was charged with battery and neglect of a child. He was accused of assaulting a woman and a one-month-old child, and throwing a cage with a hamster in it at the woman. He was released after posting a $6,000 bond, and the case was eventually dropped.
