NLE Choppa Drops “Hot in Herre” Video to Mixed Reactions, Nelly Salutes His Effort

The Memphis rapper's latest track and video pay tribute to Nelly, who offered up his approval.

NLE Choppa has provoked some reactions after he paid tribute to Nelly with his new single and video, "It's Getting Hot."

The latest from the Memphis rapper extensively samples and interpolates Nelly's 2002 hit "Hot in Herre." In the video, he also dressed up as Nelly by sporting his iconic band-aid and a basketball jersey. Per HipHopDX, the video has gotten the Nelly approval in a since-deleted Instagram Stories post. "Go up nephew," Nelly wrote about the video.

While it might have gotten the thumbs-up from the singer behind the original track, not everyone was on board with the tribute. Some Twitter users even suggested Choppa should be put behind bars for the song.

This isn't the first time that Choppa has paid tribute to another rapper with a themed music video. Just a few months back he tapped Lil Wayne for a new single and music video "Ain't Gonna Answer," which pays tribute to Cash Money history with a whole slew of references.

Perhaps most prominently, the song borrows the “What we doing? Makin’ money/What they doing? Hatin’ on us” refrain from Wayne and Baby’s “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy."

Back in May, NLE Choppa opened up about how much his life has changed since he became a father.

“This is my ‘ANGEL,'” Choppa wrote on Instagram. “Clover Literally Changed My Life, The Reason My Spiritual Awakening Happened Cause I Knew Longevity In My Life Was Needed To Be In Yours. So Thank You Clover For Maturing Me Faster Than Anything That’s Ever Happened To Me In LIFE. You Are The Reason I Want Better, You Are The Reason I Love, You Are The Reason I LIVE. Before You Was Here I Was Contemplating Suicide, When I Found Out You Were Conceiving You Gave Me Something To Not Only Look Forward To, But Something To Live For!"
