Speaking with Billboard about the decision to release an EP before following up his debut studio album 1 Up Top Ahk, he explained that he wanted to put out something brief and personal first. "It's tapping into my spirituality, basically just having a conversation with God. We don't tend to have conversations with God unless we broke, or someone is recently killed, or we in jail, or something traumatic happened. That's when everybody turned to God," he said.

As he previously hinted at, Spiritual Conversations is a deeply personal affair. The tone is dark, with the sound of impending death looming around every corner as Mozzy details his life atop bass-heavy production.
