Juelz Santana's wife Kimbella is seeking an early release for the incarcerated Diplomats member. The rapper was placed behind bars after he brought a loaded firearm to Newark Liberty International Airport and went on the run from authorities for three days. He was sentenced to 27 months in prison back in December 2018, with an expected release date of Feb. 23, 2021. On account of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, Kimbella believes Juelz should be able to finish his sentence at home.

"#FreeJuelzSantana AKA Laron James needs to be freed during this pandemic to be with his family," she wrote in the description for a new petition. "He is currently on lockdown for 2 weeks because of the Covid 19 virus outbreak. He has served 13 months at FCI Petersburg and should be allowed to serve the rest of his sentence on home confinement. BOP & Honorable Judge Chesler can make this happen for Laron. He is a good husband, father, son, brother, friend and has a positive media influence as a legendary rap artist. We need you to sign this petition to get Laron James aka Juelz Santana home."

Kimbella's request for Santana's early release comes just after controversial rapper 6ix9ine was released early over coronavirus-related concerns. However, it is worth pointing out that 6ix9ine was released because he has asthma, which means he's more vulnerable to the virus.
